Sirs,
In reply to your petition dated 19th Ultimo, addressed to the Honourable the Colonial Secretary, I am directed to inform you that His Excellency has decided that officers occupying houses of their own are excluded from the Housing Scheme and consequently from the enjoyment of house allowances pending the building of free quarters under that scheme, but that it is open to officers who own houses in which they live to divest themselves of their
houses and apply for inclusion in both schemes for the provision of free quarters and of rent pending construction
of the latter.
2. I am further directed to inform you that His
Excellency is preparad to recommend such applications to
the Secretary of State.
I am, Sirs,
Yours faithfully,
Sd. W. Chatham,
Director of Public Works.
